Student Internships
Explore hands-on experience in public health with the Essex County Office of Public Health Management’s Internship Program. As the first Academic Health Department at the county level in the state of New Jersey, we are committed to preparing and empowering the next generation of public health professionals and leaders. We offer 2–3 internship opportunities each semester (Spring, Summer, and Fall). Due to the high level of interest, placement opportunities are limited, and applicants are encouraged to apply as early as possible. We welcome undergraduate and graduate students studying public health, communications/marketing, or other interdisciplinary fields applicable to public health. We also offer an Essex County-only high school internship program for students who are over the age of 18 and in their senior year.
Internship projects vary by semester and may include public health education and outreach, data collection, research, communications and social media, inventory management, environmental health, quality improvement (QI)/accreditation, and more. Internship duration typically aligns with the academic semester but may be adjusted on a case-by-case basis to meet program and student needs.
Please note that internships are conducted in person. We are primarily seeking students located in Northern New Jersey, including Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Middlesex, Morris, Passaic, and Union counties. Affiliation agreements with the student’s college or university will be completed as needed and, on a case,-by-case basis to ensure all academic requirements are met. We also welcome interns and volunteers who are seeking to further develop their skills and gain hands-on experience for personal or professional growth, even if the internship is not required for academic credit.
For more detailed information about our opportunities, please view the PDF files below. If you are interested in applying to our internship program, please complete and submit the form below.
